Another day, another dollar I hope..

I see the economy getting worse daily everytime I punch in. People are not spending $22.00 for a steak as often as they did even three months ago. They are now ordering off the lunch menu for dinner instead. They are drinking water instead of iced tea or sodas. Requesting extra plates of our complementary bread. I understand it, but at the end of the shift as I count my dollars, understanding it doesn't help when I am trying to buy groceries at Wal-Mart. I watch the young girls with babies that I work with getting excited about their housing vouchers. They are moving into their new two bedroom apartments for $44 a month. The one girl is on baby number two. She gets WIC, Food Stamps etc...What the fuck am I doing wrong in life? The most frustrating thing is these girls all move their "baby's daddy's" into these new $44 a month apartments. These men don't work. Forgive me for being rude, but it almost seems like a reward. Have unprotected sex, get free food and cheap housing. Oh yeah, and continue to live with the idiot that got you pregnant in the first place and he too, can get a cheap roof over his head. Boggles my little mind.

I write to inmates, something I got involved with through my church. One guy I write is 23 and has 5 children with 3 different women. And he is in prison till 2012. Some days I think to myself, why do I bother, this guy just doesn't get it.
But I keep writing him and in a gentle way remind him of his responsibility to the kids, and that he should take care not to have anymore.
Does it help? I have no idea. But I know doing nothing for sure won't help.
Some take advantage of the system. My son took advantage of the system. My feeling is keep trying to educate people, one person at a time.
Hope you are well Lori. Hang in there doing the next right thing.

Ahhh yes my next door neighbor gets a four bedroom house for $23 a month. All she needs pay is the utilities which keep getting turned off and one of her string of men keep by passing the meter. That's all OK too because my phone still works and I know the utility number by heart.

It's just a big fucking game Lori...we pay for their tickets and they never lose is all.

Lou- Ironically, I write to two female inmates. They are both people I have met personally. The one is in there for manslaughter. She was a licensed a daycare mom. Her and her Asian husband have 5 of their own and she decided to get her daycare license so she could stay at home with her own children. One of the kids she was watching died a day after the baby went home. I know in my heart this woman did not kill this baby. The other one just got released. She had gotten arrested at 15 for driving a car that someone got stabbed in the backseat in. She is now 41. Her name is Karen and she just got released finally. I think it is wonderful that you take time out to write to people that many others have no care or concern for. Sometimes people make choices in a split second that destroy lives, including their own.

WM...I like the way you look at it. I, too, have my lights and phone. I work hard to pay for them. I guess I should just be thankful that I have a job. I just wish the tickets were a tad cheaper my friend.
