Employers just don't get it...
I am not an emergency worker. I am not a nurse or doctor. I am a waitress. Why than, after the govenor declared a state of emergency and forbid everything except emergency vehichles on the road, does he expect us to get to work? I do believe that the govenor has a bigger dick than a restaurant owner. I worked in the last storm. And the one before that. The snow is higher than the cars. The sad part is that the restaurant is my lively-hood. So maybe the man who signs my check is the one I will end up listening too. Plus, I really do want to get out..We have been feeding all emergency workers and they are coming in. My store owner is from Persia. He doesn't understand not working, closing and losing money. He owns two Denny's. They have both stayed open. I have worked the last two storms but am overwhelmed in this. They are even closing dialysis facilities. What do those people do? This weather has made me take into account things I have never really thought of before. One local supermarket stayed open, unmanned, and is using the honor system. Personally I think they are crazy. I would pay, but I wonder how many others will/would? Presently pissed. My child is lazy. He doesn't comprehend the severity of this. If someone had a heart attack right now in this development they would be dead. Our local firehouse burned down last night. People can't get their medication. When I was a little girl I remember a commercial, I believe it was for butter/margarine...it said "Don't mess with Mother Nature"...Those damn words have been in my head. They were true. Very true..

I agree! It's just snow, people act like it's Armageddon. People didn't used to sit in their houses and watch TV every time it snowed..
I know other cultures think we are crazy for being such wussies!
The Honor System, really? How trusting. Hard to believe in this day and age.
Hang in there.
We have a fun thing at our work that happen some years ago during a "blizzard". Employees were told to stay home because of hazardous conditions, so the on duty police sued to be given overtime (for working a regular shift) for that day. They won and now IF we want to stay home, we must use personal or vacation (or furlough) or not get paid. No excuses. Oh well. It is the same every where.
Sorry about your troubles Lori. Maybe it be time for the young mr. BP to take a hike through the madness with you to work where he can see what the to do is all about eh?
Little cold never hurt anyone. and has woke more than a few up.
Lou- My boss would adore you!!!! He believes when there is a will there is a way....be safe..
SB- I was rather surprised that they trusted the Honor System.. Peole steal from the damn grocery store when there is not a blizzard.. I shall try to find out how if went...
Whitemist- Sadly, nowadays employers have the upper hand and they bloody well know it. It is what it is, everywhere.
WM- Yes, I agree...He is starting to take alot of things for granted, much to my irritation. I do believe I am going to cut off his cash supply for awhile, only letting him have money if he does something to earn it. I am not a money tree. Perhaps if he spent some good qualty time outdoors, he would be more appreciative of all the blessings he does have. The cold just might do it...
Enjoy your day off. For some damn reason I was unable to comment on the most recent post, so I stuck it here.
Love you.
SB-Sometimes this whole internet makes me crazy..especially facebook lately...Love you too miss...It's not really a day off as I have tons of laundry, cleaning etc..I am sure you know. We never really get a "true" day off...smooches....
